Hilltop Outdoor Centre in Sheringham on the North Norfolk Coast is a high quality, family run independent Outdoor Education centre. Hilltop offers a superior and unique experience, providing developmental visits to Schools and Educational groups. Set in 26 acres of picturesque woodlands Hilltop has modern and comfortable accommodation and facilities. There are two themed centres within the grounds of Hilltop, the rustic Woodland Lodge and the coastal style Seaview House which if booked together accommodate up to 160 children.


Activities

Hilltop has attained the Learning Outside of the Classroom badge and provides an exciting array of outdoor adventure activities such as High Ropes, Climbing Wall, Super Swing and the new Amazing Air Jump along with many Field study activities including Bush Craft, Coastal Erosion, Rocky Seashore and Rail & Trail.

Challenge by choice is our ethos with the emphasis on Learning through Activity, Enjoyment, Achievement, Discovery, Responsibility and Reflection. Hilltop is purpose built to ensure high levels of participation and activity. Field studies are designed to be active and involved rather than 'look and see' We work in groups of approx. 1:8 on activity and approx. 1:15 of field studies. We offer short swimming sessions in our outdoor heated swimming pool that is open from approx. end of April to Early October (Weather Dependent)

A balanced programme of activities and discovery sessions can be selected from the many activities available to suit your school objectives, aims and the demands of the National Curriculum. Hilltop also provides a full evening programme of games and activities.

Adventure Activities


Coastal Erosion

With buckets, spades and beach material, we build huge dams and sand castles to see how the material is effected by the local environment.
Crate Stacking

Construct a wobbly tower and attempt to ring the bell at the top before the tower collapses!
The Big Zippers

Feel like your flying through the trees as you zoom down the Big Zipper
Climbing Wall

Learn to climb our purpose built 15 metre climbing wall, with 8 climbs of varying difficulty!
Tree Top Trail

Using specialist equipment, make your way around our Tree Top Trail clipping yourself 'in' and 'out' of safety cables to progress forwards.
Abseiling

From the very top of our Climbing Tower, lower yourself backwards over the edge until you reach the ground!
Power Fan

From a small ledge on the top of our climbing wall its 'only' a small step for the quickest way down!
High Ropes

Scale the High Ropes Course, from the High Wire Walk to the All aboard Platform and the Trapeze.
3D Climbing Maze

In a group of 3, the only way of getting to the top and succeeding is by working together.
Vertical Challenge

Vertical ladders, Cargo nets and hanging tyres stand in the way of you or your team making it to the top.
3G Super Swing

Experience up to 3Gs as you swing from the woodland canopy to the ground and back up again...and again...and again!....
Air Jump

The first of its kind in England. Experience free fall as you jump from the tower into a giant airbag below.
Sheringham Town Study

A walk through time, from Fishing village to victorian holiday resort to WW2 and beyond.
Rocky Sea Shore

Time to go hunting in the Rock Pools of West Runton for creatures from the deep.
Longshore Drift

Explore and measure the movement of the beach material along the North Norfolk Coastline
River Study

Get your wellies on and jump in to investigate river behaviours.
Coastal Taster Session

A mini mash up of coastal erosion and rock pooling sessions for a brief taster of both.
Pond Dipping

View and Identify all things slimy and aquatic in our onsite pond, view what you find through our frogs mouth!
Woodland Life

Check in to our Bug Hotel and learn all about the woodland creatures and habitats.
Bushcraft Taster

Learn about survival, build a fire and heat a tasty treat all without the use of matches!
Bushcraft and Shelter Building

Build a shelter, keep warm and enjoy tasty treats at the camp fire!
Rail and Trail

Full steam ahead to Sheringham railway to catch the steam train before following a woodland trail back.
Curious Team Challenges

Get thinking outside the box to solve the mysteries set around the grounds.
Orienteering

Explore Hilltop using a map and compass to find the secret words hidden around the grounds
The Journey

Navigate through the woods and over the cliff tops, complete our fun & challenging quiz with clues along the way.
Mountain Bikes

Twist and turn your way around our purpose built Mountain bike track, from bumps and berms to wooden bridges.
Archery

Be like Robin Hood or Maid Marion as you aim for the target with your bows & arrows!
Assualt Course

Get Muddy completing our woodland team assault course!
Agility Course

Working in pairs, negotiate a low-level course of ropes and balance beams.
Aerial Runway

A perfect starting activity for under 10’s and a great introduction to the Big Zippers
Blakeney Point Seal Trip

By Boat, visit Blakeney point to see common and grey seals in their natural environment.
Ice Breakers

Find out what Hilltop is really about with fun games and quick activities.

The Team and Safety

Hilltop takes safety very seriously. We have extensive risk assessments, comprehensive systems for procedures, maintenance, training and operating plans. Hilltop commits to permanent employees throughout the year with relevant national qualifications, the team are selected for their care and commitment to Hilltop and our educational goals. We have rigorous internal training and ongoing appraisal systems in place. School clients are welcome to inspect these systems.
